Náměstí Republiky 7: How Does History Come to Life?

The year was 1905. In the USA, Las Vegas was founded, in South America, the biggest diamond in the world was found, and Albert Einstein’s theory of special relativity was first published. In Prague’s Vinohrady, the foundation stone for a new theatre was laid, and a little further on, in Joseph’s Square, a new Allianz insurance company building, built on the site of the medieval King’s Court, was assigned the number 1081.

Today, the square is no longer named Joseph’s and Allianz moved a long time ago, but the building is still there. Although it’s just as impressive as the day it was finished, changing times and owners did a number on its overall condition. Before it could become the site of premium flexible offices under the Scott.Weber Workspace brand, the building had to be sensitively but thoroughly renovated.

But the goal wasn’t just to modernize the building. The goal was to return it to its former glory, with everything that entails.

The Past’s New Clothes

Buildings older than 100 years are usually accompanied by certain coldness and cumbersomeness, so creating an inspirative workspace on Náměstí Republiky 7 wasn’t an easy task. It was anything but. “It was a ride,” says our Head of Design, Martin Židek. “First, we needed to understand the specifics and complexities of the project, then to orientate in the requirements of conservationists and the building itself, and last but not least to make sure that the project, created for us by the Chapman Taylor studio, stays consistent.”

“Historical architecture is complicated,” agrees our architect, Alexandra Troligová. “We can’t interfere in everything the way we can in a brand-new construction, we must respect the original style and atypical designs. We paid great attention to the interior color palettes and materials used; we weren’t done until we were 100% satisfied.”

But the carefully preserved historical elements weren’t a nuisance. Quite the opposite, they serve as unique decorations. “In the interiors, we utilize the beautiful wrought iron grate, original railing, mirrored walls, historical light fixtures, banking hall clock, and many more interesting elements. It’s what makes our interiors unique.”

More than Just Business

Not only the interiors are unique–the whole concept of lifestyle center on Náměstí Republiky 7 is. On 9 floors, there are not only 90 offices, 17 meeting and conference rooms, 4 event spaces, 17 phone boxes, 8 kitchens including a café with a barista, and 130 m2 of terraces with an unrivaled view, but also an incredible 1 500 m² of relax and community spaces.

This is also a part of the building’s history. From the day it was built, it hosted not only Allianz and Länderbank but also a few floors of private apartments. As years passed, the living space kept giving in to office space–which was extended even into the newly created attic studio in the 90s–but the special atmosphere or work connected with free time never left the building.

And now, you can enjoy it, too. We open June 1, 2025.
